Tide referral code not working? Here's what to check
Before you assume REFER200 has failed, work through the three most common causes. Most of the time the code did register — the bonus just hasn't been earned yet.

Start here: it is often not actually broken
Most reports of a "referral code not working" turn out to be one of two things: the bonus hasn't been earned yet because the qualifying conditions haven't been met, or the code was never visible in the confirmation screens because Tide doesn't always surface it back to you after submission. Genuine failures — where a correctly entered code simply isn't recognised — happen, but they are the less common case. Work through the list below roughly in order.
Cause 1: the code field was skipped or overwritten
If you started your application from a general search rather than a referral link, the code field may have been left blank, autofilled with something else by your browser, or entered with a typo. REFER200 needs to match exactly. If you didn't screenshot the submission screen, there's no reliable way to check this after the fact except by asking Tide directly — see the contact step below.
Cause 2: the application was resumed on a different session
Tide's application form can be started on one device and, less reliably, resumed on another via a saved-progress link or email. In our experience this is where codes are most likely to drop out: the resumed session doesn't always carry the original referral parameter forward. If you switched phone, browser or tab partway through, this is the most likely explanation.
Cause 3: the bonus hasn't actually been triggered yet
This is the most common non-issue. Approval of the account is not the same event as payment of the bonus. Under the terms we last checked on 29 August 2026, the £200 is split into £75 for qualifying card spend and £125 for funding and holding a Tide Instant Saver — each with its own deadline. If you haven't yet met one or both conditions, there is nothing to pay out, and that is expected behaviour, not a fault. Read Tide's REFER200 offer terms for the exact current windows, since Tide has changed them before and can again.
Cause 4: the account or applicant doesn't qualify
Referral bonuses are typically reserved for genuinely new Tide customers. If you have ever held a Tide account before — even one you closed years ago — you may not be eligible for the referral bonus even though the account application itself is approved. This is set by Tide's eligibility rules, not by us, and it is one of the more frustrating outcomes because the account works fine; only the bonus is affected.
What to do next
- Gather your evidence: any screenshot of the application with the code visible, your application reference number, and dates for when you met (or think you met) the qualifying conditions.
- Contact Tide's in-app support directly and ask about the referral bonus status on your specific application reference. Support staff can see your account record; we cannot.
- Do not submit a second application in the meantime. It complicates the record Tide holds against you and can slow down a resolution rather than speed it up.
- If Tide confirms the code genuinely did not register through no fault of your own, ask specifically whether an exception can be made — this is entirely at Tide's discretion and outside anything refer200 can influence.
What refer200 can and can't do
We are an independent publisher and a Tide referral partner — not Tide, not a bank, and not FCA-authorised. We don't have access to individual applications, we can't see your account, and we can't intervene in a bonus dispute. What we can do is keep this page and our how-to guide accurate against Tide's published terms, which we recheck on a quarterly basis. If you think the terms described here are out of date, our editorial policy explains how to flag it.
