How to use the Tide referral code REFER200

The referral code only does its job if it is attached before you submit your application. Here is exactly where it goes, what happens if you miss it, and what happens afterwards.

Where the code goes

Tide's own sign-up flow at tide.co asks for your business type first — sole trader, freelancer, or limited company — and then walks through personal and business details. Somewhere in that sequence, usually before the final "submit application" screen, there is a referral or promo code field. If you open the application through our link on the REFER200 offer page, that field is pre-filled with REFER200 for you, and all you need to do is check it is still there when you reach that screen, because switching browsers or devices partway through can sometimes drop it.

If you are starting the application directly on Tide's site or app rather than through a referral link, you need to type REFER200 into that field yourself, exactly as written, before you submit. There is no confirmation email that separately tells you the code registered — the only way to be sure is to see it sitting in the field before you tap submit, and ideally to screenshot that screen in case you need to query it later.

Why timing matters

REFER200 is a partner code rather than a customer refer-a-friend code, which is why the bonus attached to it is larger than the standard friend referral — it is entered in the same field, in the same place, and the account you end up with is identical. Tide's partner referral programme, like most bank referral schemes, only recognises a code that is present at the moment an application is submitted. Once Tide has accepted the application — even if the account is still pending verification — the code cannot be added or changed. This isn't a refer200-specific rule; it's how Tide's own scheme is built, and it's worth reading Tide's REFER200 offer terms directly if you want the primary source rather than taking our word for it.

In practice this means the riskiest moment is if you close the application partway through and come back later, particularly on a different device. Tide's session sometimes restarts the form rather than resuming it, and a restarted form does not always carry the code forward. If you have any doubt, it is safer to start again from our link rather than assume a saved session still has REFER200 attached.

What happens after you submit

Once the application is in, Tide runs its own identity and business checks. Most applicants get a decision within minutes, though Tide can ask for extra documents — proof of address, evidence of trading, or further ID checks — which pauses the process until you provide them. None of that affects whether the referral code registered; it is a separate step in Tide's underwriting.

The code being present at application does not mean the bonus is paid immediately. Tide's current structure splits the £200 bonus into a card-spend portion worth £75 and a savings portion worth £125, each with its own conditions and deadlines set out in Tide's terms. Approval of the account and payment of the bonus are two different events, separated by weeks rather than minutes.

How to check the code actually registered

Tide does not always show the referral code back to you inside the app once the account is open, which is one reason applicants worry the code "didn't work" even when it did. The more reliable checks are: the screenshot you took at submission, your application confirmation email if one mentions a referral source, and — if in doubt — asking Tide's in-app support directly, quoting your application reference number rather than the code itself.

If you've done all of this and the bonus still doesn't show up once you've met the qualifying conditions, don't submit a second application. Go through the checks in our guide to a Tide referral code not working before contacting Tide, since a duplicate application usually complicates rather than speeds up a resolution.

A note on what refer200 is and isn't

refer200 is an independent publisher, not Tide and not a bank. We are a Tide referral partner, which means we may be paid a commission when an application made through our link converts. We are not FCA-authorised, we don't process applications, and we can't approve, expedite or override anything in Tide's underwriting. If something goes wrong with your application itself, Tide's own support is the only party who can fix it — we can only help you understand the process. Terms can change, and this page reflects Tide's process as it stood on 29 August 2026.
