Tide mobile app features: what you actually get

Tide is built around its app rather than branches or a call centre, so the app's features are effectively the account's features. Here's what it does well, and what it still can't replace.

The app is the account, not an add-on to it

Unlike a traditional bank where the app is one channel among branches, phone banking and online banking, Tide's core relationship with customers happens through its mobile app. There's also a web dashboard for some tasks, but day-to-day account management — payments, invoicing, expense tracking, support — is designed around the phone. If you're someone who prefers doing your banking at a desk with a keyboard, this is worth weighing before you apply, whatever the referral bonus is worth.

Payments and transfers

The basics are handled cleanly: sending and receiving Faster Payments, viewing a running transaction feed with real-time notifications, and freezing a card instantly from the app if it's lost. For a business that mostly needs to pay suppliers, get paid by clients and keep an eye on balance in real time, this covers the essentials without much friction.

Invoicing

Tide includes invoice creation and sending directly in the app, with the ability to see when an invoice has been paid against your account activity. For sole traders and small limited companies that don't need heavyweight invoicing software, this can genuinely replace a separate invoicing tool for simple, low-volume billing. Businesses with complex invoicing needs — recurring subscriptions, multi-currency invoicing, detailed line-item reporting — are more likely to still want dedicated accounting software alongside it.

Expense management and receipt capture

The app supports photographing and attaching receipts to transactions, which helps at tax return or bookkeeping time, and offers basic categorisation of spending. On plans that include additional cards, team members can be issued their own cards with transaction-level visibility, which is useful for small teams that need to track who spent what without sharing a single card. The depth of expense controls — spending limits per card, approval workflows — tends to sit behind specific plan tiers rather than being available on every account, so check what's included on the tier you're considering.

Accounting software integrations

Tide connects with a number of accounting platforms so that transaction data can flow through without manual re-entry. This is one of the more genuinely time-saving features for businesses that already use accounting software, though the quality and depth of any specific integration is worth checking directly against the software you use, since integrations get added, changed and occasionally deprecated.

Notifications and everyday visibility

Real-time push notifications for incoming and outgoing payments are one of the more consistently well-regarded parts of the app experience, and for a business owner checking cash flow on the move, that visibility can matter more than any single "feature" in a list. It's a small thing that adds up to a genuinely different day-to-day experience compared with checking a statement once a week.

Where the app-first model has real limits

Because there are no branches, anything that would traditionally involve walking into a bank — cash handling, in-person support for a complicated dispute, face-to-face advice — has to go through the app or Tide's remote support channels instead, which won't suit everyone. Cash deposits are routed through the Post Office or PayPoint network rather than a branch counter. Complex support queries can take longer to resolve through in-app messaging than a phone call or branch visit might, and app-based support is only as good as the connectivity and patience you bring to it. Our full review covers the support experience in more detail, including where it has fallen down for us in testing.

Security features worth knowing about

Standard protections such as biometric app login, instant card freezing, and transaction notifications are built in. As with any banking app, the biggest practical risk isn't usually the app itself but phishing attempts pretending to be Tide — never enter login details anywhere except the official app or tide.co, and treat unsolicited messages asking for account details with suspicion regardless of how convincing they look.

A note on accuracy

App features are one of the areas fintechs iterate on fastest, so specific screens and exact feature names can shift between app updates. This page describes the app's capabilities as we found them during testing and against Tide's own feature pages, checked on 29 August 2026. For the current, definitive feature list, see Tide's own account pages. refer200 is an independent publisher and Tide referral partner; we are not Tide and not FCA-authorised.

Frequently asked questions

Tide offers a web dashboard alongside its mobile apps, so you're not entirely limited to a phone screen, but the mobile app is the primary and most fully-featured way to manage the account day to day. If you need heavy spreadsheet-style bulk work, check the current web dashboard's capabilities against your needs rather than assuming full parity with the app.
